Keep Calm and Help People

“I always knew that I wanted to help people. The first time I have helped somebody was when I was in school. I used to play soccer, and we knew someone on our team had epilepsy. We were practicing one day, and out of the blue one of the girls stopped and started staring at me. I didn’t know what was going on. Even more, she begins to sing. I thought that something is not right. I ran towards her, and when I reached her, she collapsed in my hands and started having a seizure. I stayed calm because if you bring chaos to an injured person, it’s just going to explode to something way worse. From what I learned in class, I turned her on the side, and I let her have her seizure. I told somebody to call the coach, and after a couple of minutes, everything was over. That was my first experience of helping someone. I was glad that I was there because I was able to catch her and keep her from hitting her head. But at the same time, I was shocked and calm. That was the first seizure I saw, but I was able to handle it with such ease because I guess that’s just how I am built to be comfortable and confident in a crisis or an emergency situation.”
